Elecnor invests 26 million euros in occupational risk prevention to achieve the goal of zero accidents.

Corporate Social Responsibility is becoming increasingly important in company operations. In some cases, as in the case of the Elecnor Group, this forms part of its DNA, especially with regard to the Health and Safety of its entire workforce and of all the people involved in its projects and services. Aware of the importance of protecting everyone, Elecnor increases its efforts every year to design, implement and measure its internal policies and achieve the objective of zero accidents in terms of health and safety.

In the words of Javier Cruces, Elecnor's CEO, "the culture of accident prevention has dominated the company's initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety and health of its employees, as well as the supply chain. Our first objective is the safety and health of all the people involved in the Group's works, regardless of the companies to which they belong."

The Elecnor Group, being aware of the priority that must be given to Health and Safety policies for well-being, has reinforced its efforts and conceived innovative implementation mechanisms for the prevention of accidents. Proof of the success of these initiatives, which have involved an investment of 26,600,000 euros and the presence of 385 Health and Safety Technicians and 59 health professionals on staff, are the overall results in this area.

Last year, the Elecnor Group obtained record values in its quest for a zero accident rate. In the measurement of frequency indexes, it has maintained the result of 2022, being the best value obtained throughout the group's history, with a score of 1.7. With the severity index slightly higher than in 2022, obtaining 0.10 compared to 0.08 last year, it is the second best value achieved in the historical series. This satisfactory result is a reflection of a consolidated zero-accident strategy structured on four main pillars: training, awareness, control and innovation.

Regarding the first two initiatives, training and awareness, they report a high success rate due to the direct involvement with the worker's protection field itself. The detection, evaluation and identification of risks make employees active players in the process of corporate improvement, as well as the dissemination of ideas within their circle, resulting in a culture of prevention that is sustained over time.

Training is conceived as the basis of solid prevention for the Group. With the use of more than 702,300 hours in health and safety training, and 138,600 in technological areas, more than 777,000 Elecnor workers have benefited from this initiative. Awareness, on the other hand, has been implemented with proactive policies of individual and group involvement. More than 600 workers have been trained in internal individual awareness programs, such as “Back Home”, and safety contacts have been sent to employees every week, for use in training and in the more than 15,700 awareness meetings held between the Group's different units.

In parallel, active measures have been taken in the workplace in order to control the effectiveness of these active policies. In this sense, more than 356,470 PRPs (Principal Risk Permits, self-controls of the brigades carrying out the works), around 100,000 safety inspections and 1,230 internal site audits have been carried out. As a result of these practices, anomalies have been detected that have led to the implementation of more than 78,275 corrective measures.

In 2023, innovation has taken on a leading role in the Elecnor Group's Health and Safety, in line with its commitment to technology and the cutting edge. Under the umbrella of digital transformation, digital initiatives have been promoted to streamline processes and facilitate access to interested users. Thanks to this initiative, the safety and health of workers has been improved, thanks to AI and Big Data application projects, and the use of Virtual Reality in training. Encouraging the participation of all stakeholders involved has led to the proposal of up to 1,000 improvement ideas by employees.

At Elecnor, safety at work is not an option, it is a daily commitment that drives us to achieve excellence. Health and Safety is the key that guarantees a prosperous and safe future for all of us who form part of this company and the environment in which we operate," emphasizes Javier Cruces.

The Elecnor Group has progressively increased its investments in this area. In 2024, the company allocated a total of 46 million euros to initiatives focused on occupational risk prevention. This significant increase in investment reaffirms Elecnor’s strong commitment to advancing toward its goal of zero workplace accidents.
