Elecnor has been awarded the contract to build a 25 MW solar photovoltaic farm, thereby further strengthening its presence in Australia. The facility will be situated in Barcaldine in the state of Queensland.
The Barcaldine solar PV farm will be built on a 90 hectare site. Its 79,000 photovoltaic panels will generate an estimated annual output of 56,000 MWh, sufficient to satisfy the consumption requirements of 5,300 households.
The project has financing from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), an Australian government-owned financial institution specialising in the financing of projects related to renewables and energy efficiency. It also has financial backing from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
This farm is in addition to the facility that Elecnor has built and developed as an EPC company in another Australian state (New South Wales) for Moree Solar Farm Pty Ltd, which is owned by the Spanish developer Fotowatio Renewables Venture (FRV). This is a 70-MW facility.
