AENOR certification of Elecnor’s Anti-bribery Management System

Rigour, integrity and quality are some of the principles that have governed all the Elecnor Group’s activities since it was founded in 1958. In order to uphold these fundamental principles and fight corruption, Elecnor is supported by both its Code of Ethics, which includes the principle of zero tolerance of bad practices in terms of ethics and integrity, and its Compliance Policy.

Compliance occupies a very significant role in the Elecnor Group and the company is totally committed to constantly developing and adapting this aspect. An example of this occurred in 2010 when the compliance system was adapted to coincide with the reform of the Spanish Criminal Code. The objectives of these modifications were the inclusion of criminal liability of legal persons for the first time and the creation of the group’s first Compliance Committee.

As a result of this constant modification and improvement of its Compliance Policy, in 2018 Elecnor became the first Spanish company in its sector to be certified to the UNE-ISO 37001 standard for ‘Anti-bribery Management Systems’. This is the most modern and exacting certification in this area at international level.

This certifiable international standard was created in October 2016 to link companies’ management systems in terms of compliance, and it was the result of intense work involving the participation of 59 countries and different international institutions. It includes internationally recognised good business practices. Furthermore, it can be used in any jurisdiction and is applicable to any company, regardless of its size or sector, as it can also be applied to public sector and non-profit organisations.

When it was awarded this certification in 2018, Elecnor became the first Spanish company in its sector to receive it and one of the first internationally. This is an acknowledgement of the Group’s commitment to the constant improvement of its management practices and procedures. Since then, the company has continued to fight corruption and to improve its Compliance Policy, which has led to this certification being renewed in 2021, a fact which further confirms the group’s good work and soundness in the field of compliance.
